A lighting workshop was organised by Jean Beard, of NODA, after requests from the Grange Council. It was opened to all members of NODA, and hosted by The Grange Players, at The Grange Playhouse on Sunday afternoon, 17th February 2008.
The guest speaker was Dr Christopher Lester, who has a vast range of experience in all aspects of theatre. He trained at RADA and then developed a keen interest in the technical side of things, becoming a professional stage manager, and then lighting designer. He left Great Britain to lecture on these subjects in America and then Canada, before recently returning to these shores.
He proved to be a most amusing and informative speaker, and gave simple but highly effective demonstrations of different light settings. He stressed the importance of organisation, planning, liaison with directors etc AND keeping the lighting as simple as possible with the actors being fully lit.
Afterwards he mingled with the various groups where he answered questions that were specific to their theatres.
The meeting was well attended, by over 70 people, some coming from as far away as Worcester. It was felt that the workshop was a success, and that others, on different subjects, should be arranged in the future.
